6 - Campus Crime

Top 5 Most Dangerous Colleges in the U.S.

I decided to take my own twist on campus crime by discussing the top 5 most dangerous colleges in america to attend. College can already be a scary time in your life as you move away from family and basically have to decided what you want to do for the rest of your life.  Having to worry about violent crimes on your campuses though shouldn't be something for students to worry about on a daily basis. However, this is not the case for the few schools I'm going to mention below.

#5 Vanderbilt University:

Vanderbilt University is located in Nashville, Tennessee and is known as a higher level institution. Which makes it very interesting that a private research university that has a 10% acceptance rate landed in the top five. They average around 11 violent campus crimes per year and in 2011 had a shocking 535 larcenies. The University is currently under fire after students were using the threat of police brutality as an excuse to continue throwing large parities. The issue sparked multiple heated arguments between students who do not want to get sent home early from others actions.

#4 Florida A&M University:

Florida A&M University is located in Tallahassee, Florida. They are averaging around 15 violent campus crimes per year along with 292 property crimes. In July, a student was murdered at a campus student apartment complex around 6:15 p.m. where officers found a male dead with a gunshot wound. Witnesses to the crime said they noticed the body in a white vehicle located in the parking lot. Shortly after police released a description of the suspect. It was the third homicide in the past month at or located around the university.

#3 Duke University:

Coming in at #3 is Duke University located in Durham, North Carolina. On average their are 14 violent crimes per year and 753 property crimes annually. Recently a theft occurred on the East side of campus in a dorm room. The Duke University police are looking for four possible suspects. They were seen entering the dorm building and are suspected of stealing multiple electronic devices like laptops from multiple dorm rooms. They trailed behind a student how had access to gain entry to the building which then resulted in the university police releasing safety tips to prevent campus thefts

 #2 University of California Berkley:

Number two is the University of California at Berkley. Where around 38 violent crimes and 915 property crimes are reported each year. Last year police where looking for a suspect after a conservative group member of Turning Point USA was assaulted while on campus. The two started of arguing and eventually led to the man dressed in all black punching the man and walking away. They group was said to be peacefully protesting but were met with violence while on campus.

#1 University of California Los Angeles:

Coming in at number one is UCLA. The university is averaging 49 violent crimes and 921 property crime incidents each year. There seems to be a steady increase in the crime rates each year. Dealing with multiple forcible rapes crimes and almost 200 burglaries. The most recent in campus crime deals with a long investigation into the private coach track coach that has ties to the university. After multiple sexual assault allegations Conrad Mainwaring finally had a law suit filed against him. The lawsuit stated that Mainwaring lured in a young high school boy and then molested him. He said he had multiple connections to get him in with the university athletics programs and used these excuses to get close to the young man.
